About Spring River Country

Welcome to Spring River Country!

The Spring River area, also known as the eastern gateway to the Arkansas Ozarks’, is the ideal destination for weekenders seeking to get away to rest and relax, and it’s also an idyllic community to call home.

The area’s vibrant tourist-based economy is built around its lakes, rivers, and streams providing a perfect retreat destination that offers residents and vacationers a variety of water sports and top-shelf fishing. Spring River area is also well known for camping, hunting, golfing and other outdoor activities. The affordable and slow-paced lifestyle here makes it an ideal location for baby-boomers and families seeking a community where the cost of living is low and quality of life is high.

With a combined population of just over 7,500, the area’s four main cities offer a variety of residential, commercial and land opportunities.

Ash Flat (pop. 1,082) was founded in 1856 and serves as the county seat of Sharp County and is home to Ozarka College’s Ash Flat campus, the Veterans Memorial Park, the Sharp County sports complex and a bustling business and commercial sector.

Cherokee Village (pop. 4,671) is a 13,000-acre recreational community founded on the banks of the South Fork River in 1954 as one of the nation’s first master-planned communities and the first of its kind in Arkansas. The Village is home to two championship 18-hole golf courses, seven lakes, two recreation centers, swimming pools, tennis, trails, RV park and campground, all of which are private amenities for the benefit of property owners and their guests.

Hardy (pop. 772) was founded in 1883 on the banks of the Spring River and quickly became a vibrant railroad town. Today, visitors can enjoy the historic Main Street, campgrounds and parks along the river and the many outdoor outfitters that provide residents and visitors access to canoeing and fishing along the Spring River.

Highland (pop. 1,045) is home to Highland Schools that serve as the area’s public school system and the city’s central location along the main road artery connecting the four cities makes it an important commercial destination.
